10 Things to do if You’re Staying on Campus for the Weekend

It seems like a lot of students who live on campus head home for the weekend, but some of us may live too far away for that. Do you feel like you’re stuck at DSU when this happens? Here are a few things you can do to keep entertained and from being homesick.

1. Drive Around the Lakes:

There’s plenty of great views and a lot of nature to see. It takes your mind away from the stress of college, and allows you to relax. If you want an even better view, go when the sun is setting. You won’t even believe your still in Madison.

2. Check out the Four Seasons Thrift Shop:

You never know what you might find there. There are so many interesting things to look at and possibly buy. You will never get bored.

3. Have a Movie Night in Your Residence Hall with Friends:

There is bound to be at least one other person on your floor during the weekends. Make a bowl of popcorn, grab your favorite blanket, and take advantage of the lobby T.V being open.

4. Go to the Community Center:

You can work out, take a Yoga class, or just swim for a while. No matter what you choose to do, you’ll be able to get away from campus for a bit and let off some steam.

5. Go Out for a Meal at a Local Restaurant:

Tired of the T.C food? Try eating at one of Madison’s diners or restaurants. You might end up finding your new favorite place to eat.

6. Get a Group Together and Adventure to Sioux Falls:

There are plenty of things to do in Sioux Falls. Make a day trip: go to mall, get a coffee, and explore downtown.

7. Go Play Disc Golf:

Not only will you get great exercise doing so, but you’ll be able to meet new friends and get some fresh air. It might be too cold to do this soon, so get out while you still can.

8. Go to the Movies:

The movie theater in Madison will transport you back in time. Although it’s old, the theater plays many popular new releases, making it a great way to catch up on any big movies you may have missed. It’s especially awesome if you make it to the dollar movie nights. All you need if your student ID, and you’re in.

9. Go Bowling:

Get a group together and hit up the bowling alley. This is a lot of fun and a great way to have a fun competition with your friends.

10. Go Downtown:

There’s actually a lot to do in downtown Madison between the restaurant and bars (if of age). There’s always a lot of people out on Friday and Saturday nights, giving you a chance to meet new friends.

If you’re here on the weekends, and feel like there’s not much to do, try one of these activities out. You never know what you might find, and who you might meet. Keep an open mind. Madison isn’t as bad as you think.
