Demolition of the venerable Lowry Hall commenced today. By 10:30am, a full third of the building was gone and fragments were being loaded onto waiting trucks. DSU is leveling the area in preparation for its new Madison Cyber Labs (MadLabs) facility, Dakota State’s premier research facility. The MadLabs building will be close to 40,000 square feet, and offer tiered security options for industry partner to work with DSU’s faculty, graduate students, and even undergraduates on cutting edge projects in ten designated research areas.

South Dakota Gov. Dennis Daugaard, the South Dakota Board of Regents and Dakota State University announced in August of 2017 that PREMIER Bankcard President and CEO Miles Beacom and his wife Lisa, along with Denny Sanford, owner of the Sioux Falls-based First PREMIER Bank and PREMIER Bankcard, had bestowed a $30 million gift upon DSU for the construction of, and support for, a new dedicated research facility.

Among the labs that will support or be housed in the Madison Cyber Labs are the AdapT Lab for Accessible Technology, CAHIT, C-BAR, Classics Institute, Cyber Ed and Professional Development Lab, CybHer Lab, DigForCE Lab, FinTech Cyber Lab, and PATRIOT Lab.
