DSU Track Opens Season at Augie Invite

The Dakota State men’s and women’s track and field teams opened their outdoor season in Sioux Falls at the Vance Butler Invitational, hosted by Augustana College.  The meet took place at the Howard Wood Fields in which 20 teams participated in the meet from numerous NCAA Division II and NAIA schools.

On the women’s side Senior Danielle Rowe is battling an injury, but finished 4th in the women’s high jump with a jump of 5 feet 1 inch.  She also ran the 4×100 relay with teammates Laura Porch, Brandi Gau, and Amber Krogstad that finished 10th with a time of 50.67 seconds.

Sophomore Summer Bronson also did well as she placed 10th overall in the 100 meter hurdles in a time of 16.92 seconds and an 11th place finish the 400 meter hurdles with a time of 67.93.  She also was in the 4×400 meter relay with Gau, Claire Beck, and Stephanie Uher, that placed 12th with a time of 4:19.31.

Gau also placed 20th overall in the open 400 with a time of 60.48.

On the men’s side, National Runner-Up in the 1,000 meter run, Andy Coy, came away with a 2nd place finish and an automatic qualifying time in the men’s 1,500 meter run.  He ran a time of 3:55.08 which also places him 3rd overall in the DSU record book.  Coy also ran the 4×400 meter relay with Phil Carmody, Jared Megenhausn, and Thomas Kjerengtroen that placed 13th overall with a time of 3:33.88.

Senior Anthony Drealan came away with 2nd placed in the 5,000 meter run with a time of 15:20.29.  His teammate Devon Berkness also came way right behind him in 3rd place with a time of 15:22.95.

Sophomore Stacey Berg placed 4th in the long jump, jumping 21 feet and ¾ inches.  Carmody also finished 17th in the long jump, jumping 19 feet, 6.25 inches.

Sophomore Craig Bailey finished 11th overall in the high jump, jumping 6 feet and 1 inch.

Freshman Ryan Huizenga came away with 15th place in the 400 meter hurdles running a time of 1:11.52.

Kjerentroen also placed 16th in the 800 meter run.

Freshman Shane Widby placed 20th overall in the shot put with a throw of 40 feet 3.5 inches.

Next week the track and field teams will drive to Orange City, Iowa for the Northwestern Invitational.
