DSU Track Secures Medals at Sioux City Relays

The Dakota State men’s and women’s track and field teams traveled to Sioux City, IA for the Sioux City Relays which was hosted by Morningside College at Olsen Stadium.  The two-day event was cold and rainy, but the Trojans still managed to pull out some great performances.

-Friday Afternoon-

On the men’s side the DMR (Distance Medley Relay) defended their title from a year ago by winning the race with a time of 10:36.09.  The members of that team were Senior Anthony Drealan, Jared Megenhausn, Devon Berkness, and Freshman Thomas Kjerengtroen.

Sophomore Andy Coy came away in second place in the 800 meter dash.  He ran a time of 1:57.27.

Freshman Ryan Gimbel improved his DSU school record in the men’s hammer throw by throwing 114 feet, 8 inches.  Gimbel placed 8th overall in the event and he also placed 13th in the shot put by throwing 38 feet, 2.25 inches.  Freshman Shane Widby was 6th overall in the shot put as well by throwing 42 feet, 6.75 inches.  Sophomore Jeff Reiger was also 10th in the event (38 feet, 11 inches).

With the women’s team, sophomore Summer Bronson and senior Amy Pheneger tied for 8th overall in the 400 meter hurdles with a time of 1:11.88.

Sophomore Claire Beck finished 10th overall in the women’s 400 meter dash.  She ran a time of 62.95 seconds.  Freshman Nicole Jurrens placed 13th overall in the race with a time of 67.18 seconds.

-Saturday-

Seniors Drealan and Berkness came away with a 1, 2 finish in the men’s 5k run with times 15:01. 71 and 15:09.82, respectively.  Drealan also broke the DSU record which was previous held by Robert Blase (15:04.08).  Sophomore Michael Hoffman placed 11th in the men’s 5k with a time of 16:26.71

In the men’s 1500 meter run, Coy came away with the victory with a time of 4:01.36.

The men’s sprint medley captured 7th place overall in a time of 3:39.82.  Senior Phil Carmody, Megenhausn, Coy and Kjerengtroen were the runners on that relay.

Freshman Trevor Rossknecht placed 11th overall in the men’s discus with a toss of 125 feet, 8 inches.  Gimbel also placed 19th with a toss of 101 feet, 10 inches.

Senior Danielle Row took second place in the women’s high jump with a leap of 5 feet, 3 inches.

Sophomore Laura Porch and seniors Brandi Gau, Amber Krogstad, and Danielle Rowe placed 3rd overall in the women’s 4×100 meter relay with a time of 51.64 seconds.

In the women’s 100 meter hurdles, Bronson placed 9th overall with a time of 17.47 seconds.

Next week the Trojans will be at home for the Trojan Invitational.  The home DSU Invitational is canceled, which would have taken place Thursday April, 21.
