DSU Women Have Rough Week; Fall to 5-12

In this past week, Dakota State University played long rival DWU and competed in the Dakota Tip-off Classic. DSU dropped their overall record to 5-12 and 0-2 Association of Independent Institutions (A.I.I.) conference record during this span.

DWU started the Lady T’s losing streak by outscoring them 78-69. Alyson Drooger recorded a double-double with 14 points and grabbing 12 rebounds. She also had 3 blocks and handed out 5 assists. Kylie Westover scored 17 points. Cassie Jacobsen added 9 points. Courtney Hulstein had 9 points coming off the bench for DSU. Courtney Hamblin scored 9 points and came down with 5 boards. All five of the Tigers’ starters scored in double digits. Elizabeth Lamb had 15 points. Taylor Piper and Kim Johnson each added 13 points. Amanda Hart had 12 points. Brittany Hill had 11 points. Dakota State shot 48.1% overall from the field.

The Trojans then traveled to the Civic Center to play in the Dakota Tip-off Classic, where they played against nationally ranked (17) Jamestown. The Lady T’s fell to the Jimmies 97-72. Kylie Westover led the team with 15 points for DSU. Brittany Rosberg chipped in 10 points off the bench. She boarded 6 rebounds. Courtney Hulstein produced 8 points from the bench. Cassie Jacobsen added 7 points. For Jamestown, four players: Hannah Steele, Carly Jensen, Morgan Mathison and Megan Pold each had 12 points for the Jimmies. Bridget Schuneman added 10 points off the bench. The Jimmies shot 47.2% overall from the field compared to the Lady T’s 45.7%.

The second part of the classic ended up like the first, Dakota State lost to a nationally ranked team. The Trojans competed with (13) Valley City State, where the lost to the Vikings 71-52. Kylie Westover tallied a game-high 20 points for the Lady T’s. She recorded 6 rebounds. Alyson Drooger and Brittany Rosberg each scored 8 points. Rosberg had 5 rebounds. Drooger blocked four shots in the game for Dakota State. Haley Stover handed out 3 assists. Brittany Lehner led Valley City State with 17 points and recorded 4 steals. Courtney Titus chipped in 14 points. Katelyn Ralston scored 11 points. DSU shot 35.4%. VCSU outrebounded the Lady T’s 41-34.

DSU will return in action at the Fieldhouse on Thursday, January 24, where they will play Valley City State once again. Tip-off is at 5:30.
