Hoffman and Carson Qualify for Nationals

DSU Cross Country Runners at the North Star/Midlands Collegiate Athletic Conference qualifying meet.

Dakota State had two runners qualify for the NAIA National Championship after their spectacular performances at the North Star/Midlands Collegiate Athletic Conference qualifying meet in Lawrence, Kansas. Michael Hoffman won the race and freshman Michael Carson finished 8th to secure themselves a place at the national meet.

Helping Dakota State place 2nd with 54 points, the men’s team had four runners place in the top 15. Valley City managed to capture the men’s team title with 22 points and earned an automatic team bid for nationals.

Hoffman finished first out of 57 runners. His time was 27:23.73. Michael Carson placed 8th with a time of 28:36.14. Taylor Hauge placed 11th with a time of 28:49.39 and was one place short of qualifying for the national race. Steve Selchert finished 13th in 29:01.06.  Jared Sutton completed the course in a time of 29:41.93 to place 21st.  Jared Truman recorded a time of 30:32.73 to finish 29th.  Caleb Hemphill rounded out the team finishing 32nd with a time of 30:50.09.

On the women’s side, DSU finished seventh overall at the meet with 192 points. Kayla Sveen finished 32nd with a time of 22:45.28.  Anastasia Gentles ran a time of 23:17.74 to finish 35th.  Victoria Sopko completed the course in 23:26.91 and placed 37th. Brooke Fritz finished 42nd in 23:55.59.  Autumn Hazelett had a time of 27:42.13 and earned 62nd place finish.
