Jonathan Farmer’s Magellan Exchange

The Magellan exchange, a program that helps interested students find a partner university that offers courses related to the student’s degree, recently sent a student to Germany for the past several months.

Jonathan Farmer, a DSU student, spent the last several months experiencing German culture, exploring nearby attractions, and studying abroad. Even though he had to deal with a slight language barrier while there, Jonathan made several good friends that he plans on staying in contact with when he returns to South Dakota. Jonathan also made mention of the strange class structure, stating that “classes are between 1.5 hours and 3 hours, but are only held once a week.” He also mentioned that most course grades come from the final exam.

When Jonathan is not in class, he spends time visiting German attractions and locations. Berlin is his favorite location so far. He has also visited several places outside Germany, “I have also been to Dublin and London, and I have plans to travel to Paris.” While he didn’t share every tourist location he’s visited, Jonathan did mention, “I’ve seen almost everything you can think of in those cities.”

When it comes to food, Jonathan admitted his favorite food there is bratwurst. However, he really misses Taco Bell! That aside, Jonathan is enjoying his time in Germany and, when asked if he would do it again, said “I would, but I would probably pick a different place so I can see more!”
