Last Wednesday, April 22, 2015, Publishing for New Media and Sigma Tau Delta held their first ever release party for New Tricks. Snacks and beverages were provided by Sigma Tau Delta and the event was hosted by the Madison Area Arts Councils at the BrickHouse. The event had a great turn out for its first incarnation. In a truly unique fashion, visitors were asked to sign in by typing their names on an old fashioned typewriter that belongs to Dr. Nelson. The night’s events kicked off with Dr. Nelson, the adviser for Sigma Tau Delta at DSU, providing a little bit of the history behind the literary magazine. Dylan Winthers, the editor-in-chief of the magazine, then followed up with a thank you and brief explanation of the production process behind the actual creation of the magazine. Dillon Dwyer, the Sigma Tau Delta chapter president, kept the ball rolling by functioning as emcee for the poets and artists that would be reading their pieces on stage at the event. There were several writers who read including Ashley Geditz, Dillon Dwyer, Dr. Stacey Berry, Mostafa Haque, Justin Erickson, Jenna Sorsen, and Dr. Mark Geary. Also on display at the event were many wonderful pieces of artwork and photography featured in the magazine. The photos and art were displayed on the TV in the entry way of the BrickHouse. In order to check out the poetry, prose, and artwork presented that night and in the magazine, go over to the New Tricks website or grab a copy of this year’s New Tricks from Dr. John Nelson.
