One of the English majors at Dakota State University, Anna Vonkeman, has started a writing club. Anna is in her sophomore year at DSU and enjoys writing in her free time. The club has been named The Scribblers Society and has plans to meet once or twice a month. The club is very relaxed and has a come when you are available policy. Anyone interested in writing is invited to join us. The goal is to get together, write, and share ideas.

The plan is to hold the first meeting on Saturday, February 5th, from 3:30 pm to 5:30 pm; however, the meeting details could change due to unforeseen circumstances. The meeting will take place at the Scooter’s Coffee on Washington Ave. in Madison. The club has reserved the conference room for the time period. You can come for as long or as little as you would like. If you cannot make it, contact Anna (information below) to be added to the mailing list.

The first meeting will start with a quick writing prompt and share what you wrote. There is no pressure to share your thoughts on the prompt. A discussion of club goals and ideas will follow the prompt, and everyone present can participate. Suppose you cannot attend but still have an idea; feel free to contact Anna (information below). The rest will be dedicated to free writing and hanging out.

While the main goal is to have a group to write with, people can share ideas or even collaborate on projects. The club is not an official Dakota State University club right now. There is no need for funding or school recognition, but we could investigate it in the future.

Anna Vonkeman is the club’s president if you have any questions or suggestions. You can reach her on Mondays through Fridays from 10 am to 5 pm at [email protected].
