Prominent Game Designers arrive on DSU campus!

The number of game designers on campus is set to increase exponentially this weekend, as the workshop on Integrated Design in Gaming kicks off!

From visiting game design classes to inspiring aspiring developers over lunch, our special guests will be quite busy between Tuesday and Sunday.

Traditionally a part of Nanocon, South Dakota’s biggest gaming convention, the workshop on Integrated Design in Gaming split off to give both professionals and neophytes more time to facilitate the flow of free thought.

Mr. Carter was one of the lead designers behind the famed RPG franchise, Fable. Currently he is developing games solo as Flutttermind Ltd. His most recent game, Incoboto, was nominated for a BAFTA in 2013. Keep an eye out for Spellrazor – an experimental arcade experience by Mr Carter. He will only be on campus on Wednesday, the 4th of November, though.

Mr Dyack founded Silicon Knights in 1992, the studio responsible for classics like the madness inducing Eternal Darkness: Sanity’s Requiem and the dark, gothic saga Blood Omen: Legacy of Kain.
Also attending, will be Dr. Susan Savett a depth psychologist focusing on game mechanics and the archetypical energies of mythology , and Katherine Scheck a Master of Game Design from Kongju National University with a deep understanding of Avatars – digital representations of identity.

DSU’s own Edoardo Persechetti will also be delivering a key note speech on the math behind Malifaux, a prominent miniature table top game in the same vein as Warhammer 40k. Finally, our prominent game scholar, Dr. Jeff Howard, will be doing a joint presentation with Dr. Savett titled ‘Of Gods and Game Design’ – a thought provoking discourse on bringing out the ‘soul’ of a video game.
