This year the softball team has struggled throughout the season with a record of 12-17. They dropped two straight games to DWU this weekend in a double header.

The first game started out with a DSU lead with a Brittney Hill RBI. DWU got that run right back in the second inning on an error by the Trojans. Late in the game DWU scored three straight runs to take the lead with a score of 4-1. In the top of the seventh the Lady Trojans got a rally going with a base hit by Hill. Jessica McLane scored Hill on an RBI. That RBI was not enough, as they couldn’t finish the rally leaving one runner on.

Brittney Hill had two doubles; McLane had two singles and an RBI. Emily Kulp added a single.

In the second game the Trojans tied DWU three different times in the game. DWU had another big inning in the fifth again scoring four runs to take a 6-3 lead. The tigers tacked on one more insurance run in the bottom of the sixth to secure a 7-3 victory over the lady Trojans.

These next couple weeks the softball team will be finishing the last part of their schedule taking on Mt. Marty and Sioux Falls.

“This year definitely didn’t go as planned, but the 10 of us left stuck together through up and downs. Even though we have all odds against us and no one thinks we can, I still think we have ourselves in a good position make it to Conference in Georgia,” said senior Alisa Baesteri.
