Trojan’s Take Close Win Over Vikings

The DSU men’s basketball team took on NCAA DII Augustana on Friday night, in a thrilling exhibition game at the Elmen Center. The Trojans held on to a 1-point lead at halftime to beat the Vikings by 1, 52-51.

The DSU men’s basketball team took on NCAA DII Augustana on Friday night, in a thrilling exhibition game at the Elmen Center.  The Trojans held on to a 1-point lead at halftime to beat the Vikings by 1, 52-51.
The Trojans raised their record to 6-3 on the year and continued a three-game winning streak.  Augie dropped their overall record to 3-1 and it also snapped a 12-game winning streak against DSU.
The first half was a back and forth battle between the two as there were seven lead changes and three ties.  The Trojans came up big with a 10-3 run to take the lead 27-24 with 3 minutes and 16 seconds left on the clock in the first-half.  A jumper with seven seconds left by Augusta cut the Trojan’s lead 29-28.
DSU came out hot as they went on a 9-2 run for an eight-point lead 38-30.  With 9:21 left in regulation, the Vikings scored 12 straight to overtake the lead 42-38.
DSU tied the game at 49-49 with 3:48 left on the clock by Spencer Adams’ 3-pointer and a lay-up by Larsen.
The Vikings missed two shots in the last 24.7 seconds of the game.  DSU’s King stole the ball with two seconds remaining as the Trojans secured an exhibition win, with a total of 52-51
Spencer Adams and Mike Larsen led the Trojans in scoring with 13 points each.  Santino Clay added nine points for the Trojans and Jordan King had seven points and dished out six assists.
Dakota State went back to regular season action on Sunday afternoon.  The Trojans also faced NCAA Division II Wayne State of NSIC, but came up short in overtime with a final score of 80-84.
