Trojan Baseball: Waldorf College

Trojans’ Woes Continue as Waldorf Takes Four:

The Trojan baseball team struggled once again this past weekend as they were swept by Waldorf (IA) during their four-game set. The Warriors won both games on Saturday, beating the Trojans 28-4 and 3-1. Garrison Collier pitched the first game, throwing two and two-thirds innings giving up eleven runs on eleven hits, taking the loss. Hayden Rainey tossed the second and found himself locked in a pitchers’ duel through five innings before surrendering the Trojans 1-0 lead in the sixth inning. Juan Sermo and Andrew Hesse led the charge for the Trojan offense as Sermo blasted a two-run home run in the first game and Hesse had the only run batted in for the Trojans in game two.

Sunday’s games were much of the same story as the Trojans fell again to the Warriors, 22-6 in Game one, and 20-6 in Game 2. David Kirby pitched for the Trojans in Game one, throwing three innings giving up 8 runs on one hit and ten walks. The offense in Sunday’s first game was led by Connor Nagel, Smith Kemper and Juan Sermo. Nagel and Kemper each had two hits along with a RBI, while Sermo added another home run and two RBI.

The Trojans then fell in Game 2 on Sunday as Trey Randel took the mound for the Trojans, giving up twelve runs on seven hits. The offense in the game was led by Garrett Mullins and Juan Sermo. Mullins had a double with two RBI and Sermo added a double of his own with a RBI.

The Trojans come out of the weekend at 1-15 overall and 1-7 in conference play. The Trojans were scheduled to take on Bellevue (NE) at home this coming weekend, but that has since been moved to Bellevue, Nebraska for a Friday-Saturday matchup. They will take on the Bruins in another 4-game conference series this weekend. The first game on Friday is set for 1 p.m. followed by another at 4 p.m. Saturday’s games are slated for a 12 p.m. start time.

The home opener for the Trojans will now be April 14 when they host conference foe Winnipeg (MB). With their second weekend of conference play in the books, the Trojans find themselves in eighth place in the conference, one game ahead of both Presentation (SD) and Winnipeg (MB), while being seven games behind conference leading Bellevue (NE).
