Trojan Volleyball Show Superpowers Over Valley City

The Trojan volleyball team was in action over homecoming weekend as they took on Valley City and South Dakota School of Mines at home. The Trojans  lost in four match sets against the School of Mines on Friday’s Neon Night.

Against Valley City, they  fell into a quick 0-2 deficits, but rallied back to win in 5 sets. This win moved the lady Trojans to 8-11.

In the first set the Vikings jumped out to a fast 6-1 lead. DSU rallied back and forth the whole match but the Vikings won the first one with a score of 25-21. The second match the Vikings grabbed a 16-11 lead and finished it off with a score of 25-17. The third match the Trojans started off with a 11-6 lead and locked it in winning the match with a score of 25-18.  In the fourth set the Trojans stayed hot and came out with a 13-4 lead. They let the Vikings climb back a bit but finished the set with a score of 25-18. In the final deciding match the Trojans won with a score of 15-11.

Stephanie Kruggel had 20 kills, DiPaola added 17 and LaBar had 10 kills.  Stacey Schuller had 45 set assists.

With homecoming and for the many games throughout the season, leadership has been vital for the team’s success. Coach Veenhof stated, “leadership generated from the team comes from Stephanie Kruggel, Lauren LaBar, Kristen DiPaola, Stephanie Uher, and Katie Green. Those five are displaying leadership and brining a different dynamic with what they do for the team. Every player brings something unique to the court, while providing positive energy  that is crucial for success.”

The Trojans play at home on Wednesday, September 28 to take on Presentation College at 7pm.
