Trojans and Lady T's Traveled to Valley City

The Lady Trojans traveled to Valley City Saturday night to take on the Vikings. DSU was defeated after a strong start with a score of 88-54. This third straight loss dropped them to 5-13 overall and 1-6 in the DAC.

The Lady-T’s game out strong and battled the Vikings at the start of the game. However, DSU suffered some turnovers and Valley City went on a 34-14 run putting them down 47-27 at halftime. The Lady Trojans had a bad second half getting outscored 41-27.

Julie Munson scored 15 points off the bench. Ashley Hansen and Cassie Jacobsen added 8 points for DSU. Yui Onodera had three assists and Ansheia Starks grabbed four rebounds. The Lady-T’s continued to struggled from the 3-point line shooting 21 percent. The Lady-T’s will look to bounce back Wednesday night against Mayville State. The home game will tip off  at 5:30.

DSU’s men’s team snapped a 5 game losing streak and extended Valley City’s losing streak to 5 Saturday night. The Trojans moved back to an even record going 10-10 on the season and 2-5 in the DAC. They defeated the Vikings by a score of 79-70.

The game was an intense battle at in the first half of the game with 8 different lead changes. DSU held the biggest lead in the first half with a 14-9 lead. But the Vikings came back strong to take the lead. Right before the half Spencer Adams hit a 3 pointer to take the lead at halftime 38-37.  In the second half the game was very tight. But then the Trojans went on a 16-7 run to take the win in valley city.

“We were just really disappointed in last night’s close loss, we knew we just had to come out tonight and keep the pressure on them” said Jesse Bean.

Spencer Adams led the Trojans in scoring with 26 points, which were perfect from the free throw line going 9 for 9. Santino Clay had 15 points while Bryce Snyder had 12 and Jesse Bean added 11. Three different players for the Trojans all had 7 rebounds each; those players were Mike Larsen, Santino Clay and Spencer Adams.

The men’s team will also be hosting the Mayville State Comets, Wednesday night in Madison. Tip-off with be set for 7:30 in the Dakota State Field House.
