Two Wins for Trojan Volleyball at Corn Palace Classic

The Trojan volleyball team traveled to Mitchell this past weekend and played in the Corn Palace Classic. The Trojans played four games, two on Friday and two on Saturday. The Trojans lost two matches on Friday, but bounced back on Saturday and won two. This moved their record to 3-6.

On Friday the Trojans took on Montana State- Northern and was swept in all three sets – 25-14, 25-14 and 26-24. Kristen DiPaola had 10 kills and Stephanie Kruggel had 7 kills and 15 digs. Katie Green led the Trojans on defense with 21 digs.

The second match of Friday was against Valley City. The Trojans lost a 5 set match – 18-25, 28-26, 25-20, 20-25 and 15-13.

Saturday, the Trojans took on Dickinson State and Dakota Wesleyan. In the first match against Dickinson, the Trojans swept them in three straight sets – 25-19, 25-21 and 26-24. Kruggel, LaBar and DiPaola all recorded 11 kills. Kaite Green led the defense again with 11 digs.

The second match the Trojans won a 5 set match against DWU. The scores were 22-25, 25-13, 25-17, 23-25 and 15-10. Kruggel was on fire in this match with 19 kills. DiPaola also recorded 16 kills. Schuller had a stunning 44 assists.

The Trojans Co-Captain Kristen DiPaola stated, “The corn palace tournament was such an exciting experience for us, this was a time where we got to experience with our line ups and see what worked for us as a team.”

The Trojans will play at home this Wednesday night at September 7, hosting Mount Marty at the DSU Field house. The match is slated for 7:30pm and will include an honorary night in memory of former Trojan setter Ashely Engel.
