FBLA at nationals

I had the opportunity to interview Lucy Fods, student President of the FBLA club at Dakota State University. FBLA is doing exciting things on campus, and it is my pleasure to share the answers to some questions I had about the club’s purpose, goals, and events. Speaking with Fods gave me a very positive image of FBLA and it seems like a welcoming community for innovate and ambitious students.

Q:  What does FBLA stand for?

A: FBLA stands for Future Business Leaders of America, we were formerly known as Phi Beta Lambda, but the organization changed the name at the national level. We are the collegiate division of the high school club FBLA.

Q: What is FBLA all about?

A: FBLA inspires and prepares students to become community-minded business leaders in a global society through relevant career preparation and leadership experiences.

Q: How is the club helpful for students?

A: The club helps students meet new people and make meaningful relationships on campus. We teach leadership skills and provide opportunities for students to compete against others in different competitions.

Q: When/where does the club meet?

A: The club meets every other Tuesday at 12:20pm in East Hall room 010. We have around fifteen members that attend our meetings.

Q: How did you get involved with FBLA?

A: I got involved with the club my freshman year of college when the former President spoke to one of my classes. I was the Vice President last year and I have now taken over as President of the club this year.

Q: Is the club doing anything new this year, and are there any upcoming events?

A: FBLA will continue to help the community through projects such as blood drives and raking leaves for elderly citizens in the community. We also do fundraisers to raise money for our members to attend state and national leadership conferences. We have members attending the Fall Leadership Conference in November at Northern State University. Our fall Blood Drive will be December 1st as well.

Q: Do you have a favorite part of FBLA?

A: My favorite part about FBLA is the friends that I have met through the club. I also have been able to improve my leadership skills as President this year.
