DSU Basketball Teams Battle Through Tough Schedule
The Dakota State University men’s and women’s basketball teams have faced a competitive stretch in recent weeks, with both squads showing resilience in their respective matchups.
The DSU men’s basketball team has been on an emotional rollercoaster the past few days, winning some games easily and battling it out in others. They started their season on a high, winning three consecutive away games against Mayville State (70-67), Valley City State (66-61), and Bellevue (64-62). Towards the end of February, they experienced a difficult slump and lost four consecutive games. The defeats were a tightly contested match with Mayville State (73-77) and another with the same side (68-78) and back-to-back defeats to Jamestown (77-86) and Dickinson State (60-76).
They have a challenging exam on their hands for their upcoming game against Mayville State on Feb 26. The Trojans have had their own share of issues the past few years, yet they have also been able to showcase flashes of high-efficiency play. Those moments are built upon a solid effort that always puts them in position. If they can continue at the pace that they have been since the start of the season, playoff contention may very well be possible. Remaining as a single unit and adapting to what is in front of them will prepare them for what is to come.
The DSU women’s basketball team is currently ranked #8 in the NAIA and has been doing extremely well on the court. The Trojans started this second half of the season with a bang by winning against Mayville State 83-60. They lost one game to Valley City State with a score of 61-75. The team recovered immediately with back-to-back wins as they won against Bellevue (72-60), Mayville State (86-77), and Valley City State (67-66).
The team ended February on a high, with two more wins—a resounding (73-62) victory over Jamestown, capped by a dominant (93-74) win over Dickinson State. With this strong record under their belt, the Trojans will face Valley City State on March 1, looking to keep their ranking strong and gather momentum for the playoffs. Their foundation for success remains their stifling defense and dynamic offense, with star players stepping up big-time in every game.

With this talented team, they play at a high tempo throughout games that opponents find hard to keep up with on both ends of the court. Coaches have credited the team’s outstanding capability to adjust to different game circumstances and to be resilient in close situations.
