DSU’s Theater Program Presents Guys And Dolls!

Many students have been hard at work this semester preparing for the spring musical. The cast and crew include 22 students who have rehearsed about 4 times a week since early February. Not only are the actors memorizing lines, songs, and choreography during this time, but they are also involved in building sets, props, and costuming. The director, Kelly MacLeod, has kept everyone quite busy.
Guys and Dolls is a romantic comedy that takes place in New York in the 1950s. It follows two gamblers, their love interests, and their unusual relationships. Sister Sarah Brown is a mission leader trying to save the souls of the gamblers, who gets romantically involved with gambler Sky Masterson, who is trying to win a bet. The other couple includes Adelaide, a showgirl, and her fiancé, Nathen Detroit, who have been engaged for 14 years. Along with the four main characters, various gamblers are devoted to following the crap game held by Nathan Detroit. Amid the antics, Guys and Dolls includes famous songs like “Bushel and a Peck,” “Luck Be a Lady,” and “Sit Down, You’re Rockin’ the Boat.”
Show times are April 4th and 5th at 7 pm with a Sunday matinee at 1 pm. Tickets are 12 dollars at the door and 10 dollars for seniors. Free for DSU students and those with a military ID. The show is about two hours long, with a fifteen-minute intermission, with free will donation concessions. Please come and show your support to these hard-working actors this weekend!
