Trojans Defeat Dickinson Blue Hawks

On Saturday, Oct 19, the Trojans handily put away the Dickinson Blue Hawks 3-0 in Dickinson, ND. The long road trip did little to sway the Trojans who hit .233 throughout the match compared to the Blue Hawk’s .083 hitting percentage. The win gives the Trojans a 7-2 record in conference play and an overall record of 14-8.

The Trojans quickly started the first set with a 3-0 lead and never let the Blue Hawks back in the match taking the set 25-17. However, in the second set, the Blue Hawks started out hot, taking an early lead at 4-3. The Trojans would quickly recover though with a 9-1 run making the set score 13-5. It would be all Trojans after that, and the girls would easily win the second set 25-15. Going into the third set, the Blue Hawks would have a little more fight in them. It would be a back-and-forth fight to begin the third set with the score tied at 10-10. To end the set though it was all Trojans. They would go on a 9-3 scoring run and finish the match to take set three 25-19.

The Trojans were led by senior leader Barbara Briceno who paved the way for the Trojans. She guided the team from the net with nine kills and had eight digs. Hannah Jellema ended the game with eight kills and Maddie Polzin added another seven kills as well as two block assists. Nicole Sarringar helped lead the offensive attack with seventeen set assists and was assisted by Rachel Johnson who added another fourteen set assists and seven digs. On the defensive side Peyton Groft had eleven digs and Samantha Zell added three block assists for the Trojans.

Next up, the Trojans return home to kick off a three-game home stand. They face Briar Cliff on Tuesday, October 22nd for the annual Dig Pink match. The junior varsity match begins play at 6 p.m. and is followed by the varsity at 7:30 p.m. Good luck, and go Trojans!
