DSU Women's Basketball Team

For about the last three weeks, the Dakota State University Women’s basketball team has gotten to a 2-4 start. During this period the Trojans have accumulated 441 points and are 3rd in the NAIA in blocks with 28.

The Lady T’s started the season with a home game against the Oglala Lakota Lady Bravehearts. DSU won 112-39 while shooting an impressive 54.7% from the field. Westover finished the game with 31 points, Alyson Drooger and Courtney Hulstein each scored 14 points.  Cassie Jacobsen, Courtney Hamblin, Jayda Swenson and Katy Pillar each accumulated eight points. Drooger grabbed eight rebounds and blocked five shots for the Lady T’s.  Swenson added six rebounds.  Pillar had three blocked shots and five rebounds.  Hulstein handed out six assists, while Hamblin had five assists

The second game of the season was against the #2 Northwestern Red Raiders, where the Lady T’s lost to the three-time defending NAIA Division II Women’s Basketball Champions 99 to 58. Courtney Hamblin led the Lady T’s with 16 points. Cassie Jacobsen scored 13 points. Kendra Lindblad and Katy Pillar each added six points. Pillar had a game-high 11 rebounds. Julie Munson gave out three assists.  Alyson Drooger recorded two blocked shots. The Lady T’s shot 30.6%.

Next was the NAIA showcase, where the Lady T’s had two games against Viterbo Hawks and the #4 Indiana Wesleyan Wildcats. The showcase started against the Hawks, Katy Pillar poured in a career-high 28 points for the Lady T’s, and she also grabbed seven rebounds.  Westover scored 11 points.  Yui Onodera tallied eight points and dished out five assists.  Jayda Swenson had eight points.  Courtney Hamblin recorded five assists. The Lady T’s shot 52.2 % from the field. The next game of the showcase ended in the same result, having the #4 team in the NAIA beat DSU 68-63. Against the Wildcats, Courtney Hulstein scored 20 points off the bench for the Lady T’s. Katy Pillar scored 15 points and also recorded a double-double as she brought down 11 rebounds.  Yui Onodera and Drooger each had nine points.  Courtney Hamblin and Onodera each handed out four assists. Dakota State shot 51.1% from the field compared to the Wildcats’ 46.3%.

The 4th game of the season was against in-state rivals, DWU Tigers. The Tigers won 82-59. Katy Pillar and Alyson Drooger each scored nine points for the Lady T’s.  Kylie Westover and Jayda Swenson each recorded six points.  Drooger pulled down eight rebounds and recorded four blocked shots. Onodera and Kendra Lindblad each dished out three assists. The Lady T’s shot 46.5% from the field.

The next game was where the Lady T’s ended their 4 game winning streak. The Trojans defeated the Trinity Bible Lions 84 to 46. Courtney Hamblin led the team with 15 points for the Lady T’s. Alyssa Drooger scored 11 points. Courtney Hulstein had 10 points. Katy Pillar tallied eight points and grabbed six rebounds.  Yui Onodera gave out four assists.  Kylie Westover scored eight points and produced three assists. The Lady T’s shot 62.5% from the field.

 

The Trojans next game will be at the Fieldhouse against Presentation college at 7:00 p.m.
