Lady T’s vs. Lady Bruins – January 14th
The Dakota State women’s basketball team was in action Saturday in Bellevue, Nebraska for their matchup with the Bellevue University Bruins. Despite a good showing, the Lady T’s came up just short in a game that was hard fought by both teams. The Bruins were able to come out two points ahead in the contest winning by a score 67-65. After leading by twelve heading into the final quarter, DSU was unable to fight off the Bruin’s comeback, as they were outscored 24-10 in the final quarter of play.
Aside from being edged out by just two points, the Lady T’s had a number of positives to take away from the game. Senior guard BreAnna Olson had a game-high 28 points, going 9 of 15 on her field goal attempts. Olson’s 28 points also marked a career-high in points scored, and included a performance in which she went 6 for 8 from behind the three-point line. Following Olson in points was Kennedy Wagner with 17 points, going 6 of 12 from the field. Jamie Tebben also chipped in 10 points. Olson and Wagner tied for leading the team in assists, each dishing out 3 of them. Junior Shelby Vogel and Freshman Britley Plautz pulled down 10 rebounds apiece.
Angeliece Tucker led the way for the Bruins in scoring, with 15 points. She was followed by Ryleigh McCartney and Beth Walker, who each contributed 10 points. Taylor Cormier had 5 assists for Bellevue, and Caletria Curtis was able to grab 9 rebounds.
With the loss, the Lady T’s drop to 4-15 overall on the season, with a 2-6 in-conference record. They will host NAIA’s 13th ranked Jamestown University on Friday January 20th at the DSU Fieldhouse at 5:30 P.M. The Bruins even out their record, improving to 10-10 on the season, and 4-4 in conference play. They will host Viterbo University in Bellevue at 5:30 P.M. on the 20th of January.
