Lady T’s Saturday Action vs. Viterbo V-Hawks
The DSU Lady T’s traveled to La Crosse, Wisconsin on Saturday, February 4th to take on the V-hawks of Viterbo University in an out of conference matchup. The Lady T’s rallied in the 4th quarter after trailing at the half 27-26, and 41-35 after 3 quarters of play. Dakota State outscored the V-hawks 17-11 in the final quarter of play. With the Lady T’s up by three with just seconds remaining in regulation, Viterbo’s Mariah Weddle sunk a 3 pointer to tie the score up at 52 apiece. DSU was then forced into a turnover, and Weddle’s 3 pointer ended up forcing an overtime period. The Lady T’s continued their fiery play into the overtime period, getting off to a 9-0 run to begin overtime play, and easily getting their way to a 68-58 victory.
BreeAnna Olson led Dakota State in scoring, again matching her own career high in points, with 28. She was 9 of 16 from the field, including 2 of 5 from behind the 3 point line. In addition to her performance on Saturday, on Monday February 6th, Olson was named as last week’s North Star Athletic Association Player of the Week for the week of January 30th-February 5th. Following Olson in Scoring was Kennedy Wagner with 11, and Kelley Criddle with 10. Wagner also led in rebounds with 8, and Junior Shemika Frazier led in assists with 4.
For the V-hawks, Alyssa Nilssen scored 19 points, followed by Mariah Weddle with 12. Kassi Hofschild led in rebounds with 11. Nilssen and Weddle also tied in rebounds, each grabbing 9. Nilssen was also team leader in assists for Viterbo, dishing out 3.
