Bricks, Blocks, and Ticking Clocks: SAB hosts LEGO building competition

The Student Activities Board (SAB) hosted a LEGO building competition on Wednesday, Nov. 5, bringing a creative engineering challenge to the Library Upper Room. Approximately 25 students participated in the event, which required builders to work against a strict deadline using limited materials.

The rules were simple but strict: builders had one hour to create a design from scratch. But unlike a typical LEGO set, there were no instructions and no specialized parts, just a pool of random, standard bricks. Whether working solo or in teams, participants had to improvise, turning the limited materials into everything from architectural models to abstract art before the sixty-minute timer ran out.

Due to the time constraints and the random nature of the materials, the event focused on improvisation and adaptability. By the end of the hour, a variety of structures were completed, ranging from architectural concepts to abstract designs.

Rather than judging the builds on the spot, organizers let the campus decide the winners. A voting link posted at the Trojan Center front desk allowed students to browse photos of the finished projects and cast their votes online. The voting process was conducted anonymously online, allowing the general student body to decide the rankings based on the photos of the finished products.

The results were finalized earlier this week. The winning entries were selected based on the highest number of votes received through the digital poll.

With the results tallied earlier this week, the top spot went to a creative mosaic of Mario and Yoshi. The design won over the student body for its clever use of standard bricks to recreate the classic video game characters.

Overall, the event served as a welcome mid-week creative break, giving students a chance to step away from their studies and build something unique.
