Deal or No Deal Brings Energy to TC Underground

It’s January in South Dakota. It’s freezing. But the Student Activities Board (SAB) is active regardless of the weather; they keep hosting events like Bingo and Karaoke just to keep things moving. On Tuesday, January 20, they took over the TC Underground for “Deal or No Deal.”
About 20 of us showed up at 7 p.m., mostly just to get out of the cold. SAB didn’t have official boxes, so they used about 20 handmade cardboard boxes. Inside were random challenges or prizes ranging from gift cards to “Ghostface” merch.

Shashank, a freshman, hosted the night. He didn’t let the energy drop, even when things got awkward. He used a random website to pick players initially, but the final cut came down to Rock, Paper, Scissors. One guy lost four times in a row; Shashank didn’t let it slide, asking the crowd, “How does it feel to lose four times in a row brutally?”
The game itself was weirdly stressful. The “deals” weren’t just about luck; you had to do things. I got pulled up and had to act like I had just won a million dollars. I didn’t know what to do, so I just tried to faint on stage. It was embarrassing. McKenzie from “Trojan Talks Tuesday” had to film a video with her camcorder, which is basically just her doing her job.
Some people left annoyed because they didn’t win anything; others were just happy to be there. It wasn’t perfect, but it made the winter feel a little faster.
