Trojan Women Continue to Struggle
The Dakota State University Lady Trojans had another rough week as they went 1-6 and still haven’t been able to win a game in the A.I.I conference.
The Trojan’s first game of the week was against #25 Valley City, who they played just four day earlier. The result was the same as DSU lost a close one at 57-54. Kylie Westover led the team with 15 points for Dakota State. Courtney Hamblin contributed 12 points off the bench. Alyson Drooger scored 8 points. Julie Munson added 7 points. Brittany Rosberg came down with 9 rebounds for the Lady T’s. Drooger added 8 rebounds. Drooger recorded eight blocked shots in the game, which moved her into No. 2 spot in the Lady T’s record book for the most blocked shots in a single season with 72. The Lady T’s shot 19 for 59 (32.2%) from the field.
Next up for the Lady T’s was the Coaches vs. Cancer Game, where Dakota State beat Trinity Bible Lions 93-33. Four players for DSU scored in double digits in the game. Kylie Westover and Courtney Hulstein each scored 15 points. Cassie Jacobsen added 13 points. Jayda Swenson recorded a double-double of 10 points and 10 rebounds off the bench. Brittany Rosberg, Kendra Lindblad and Courtney Hamblin each contributed 8 points. Rosberg earned 9 rebounds. For the Lions, Kelby Wiederhold scored 9 points. Wiederhold and Kylie Flemmer each had 4 rebounds. The Lady T’s shot very well with a field goal percentage of 52.8% (38-for-72) from the field compared to the Lions’ 18.6% (11-for-59).DSU outrebounded the Lions 54-33.
Following their win, DSU lost 85-77 to the Mount Marty Lancers, dropping their record to 6-14. Courtney Hamblin and Cassie Jacobsen each led the team with 16 points for the Lady T’s. Courtney Hulstein added 15 points. Kylie Westover scored 13 points. Brittany Rosberg had 9 points and had a game-high 14 rebounds. Hamblin, Jacobsen and Jayda Swenson each earned four rebounds. The Lancers shot well with 46.3% overall from the field (25-for-54), well the Lady T’s shot 40.6% (28-for-69) overall from the field.
The outcome was the same for next game, as the Lady T’s could not stop a late second-half charge against Comets as they lost 66-55. DSU’s Cassie Jacobsen led the team with 18 points. Kendra Lindblad scored 11 points off the bench. Courtney Hamblin added 9 points. Courtney Hulstein recorded 7 rebounds for the Lady T’s. Westover came down with 6 rebounds. Yui Onodera dished out 5 assists for DSU. Hamblin added 4 assists. The Comets shot 39.7%.
The Trojans then lost to the nationally-ranked (15) Jamestown Jimmies. The final outcome of the game was 82-70. Cassie Jacobsen scored 17 points for the Lady T’s. Kylie Westover scored 15 points. Courtney Hulstein and Jayda Swenson each had 8 points off the bench. Courtney Hamblin recorded 6 rebounds for DSU. Hamblin and Hulstein each dished out 3 assists. Jamestown shot 45.5% compared to DSU 41.8%). Jamestown outrebounded the Lady T’s 45-35.
The Lady T’s once again played a nationally-ranked team. Dakota State University lost to the 18th ranked Mayville State Comets. Kylie Westover recorded 15 points for Dakota State. Cassie Jacobsen and Julie Munson each scored 6 points. Hamblin recorded 5 rebounds for the Lady T’s. Brittany Rosberg and Jayda Swenson each pulled down 4 rebounds. Yui Onodera dished out 3 assists for DSU. She also had 3 steals. Musnon had 4 steals. MSU shot 44.3% compared to the Lady T’s 25%. Mayville State had 59 rebound to the Lady T’s 29. MSU hadd 26 turnovers in the game compared to DSU’s 14 turnovers. It was the final home collegiate basketball game for four Lady T’s seniors – Hamblin, Onodera, Rosberg, and Zirbel.
Midland Warriors sweep the season series as the Lady T’s lost their fifth straight game 77-66. Cassie Jacobsen led the Lady T’s with 16 points. Courtney Hamblin and Jayda Swenson each scored 13 points. MU shot 43.9% compared to DSU 39%. Midland outrebounded the Lady T’s 41-32 in the game. The Trojan’s next game is against the nationally-ranked Jamestown Jimmies again on Wednesday the 13th.
