Trojans Start Season Off Right
The 18th ranked Dakota State Trojans played against the Mount Marty Lancers Wednesday night at the Fieldhouse. The game was close through the first half, but the Trojans exploded in the second half to win the game 71-53.
Dakota State scored the first points of the contest and would keep their lead until 6:35 left in the first half. The Lancers would use a 6-0 drive to tie the game up at 21-21. The Trojans would finish the half with a lead of 35-26. Dakota State shot 34% (12 for 35) in the first half.
The Trojans broke out in the second half with a 13 to 4 run making their lead 49-34. The Lancers could not get within 9 points of the Trojans in the second half. The Trojans would end the game 71-52 with an emphatic dunk by senior Cameron Krump as the last seconds expired off the clock. DSU shot 13 for 31.
Yusuf Vinson showed why he was voted as one of the 5 players on the NSAA Preseason Team. He led DSU with a double-double of 12 points and grabbing 13 rebounds. Cameron Krump scored 12 points for the Trojans. Adam Hofer added 10 points and grabbed 8 rebounds. Marcus Smith had 11 points and 5 rebounds for Dakota State. Seth Cavanaugh had 8 points and Jordan Snyder had 6 points and pulled down 9 rebounds. Dylan Hale gave out 5 assists for the Trojans and Hofer added 3 assists and recorded 3 steals. Ryan McCutcheon had 2 blocked shots. Vinson, Krump and Snyder each had a blocked shot for the Trojans on a great defensive night.
The Trojan’s will play their next game at home as they have a heated matchup against #15 ranked Northwestern at 7 pm.
