Trojan Football Falls to Northwestern Raiders

Carl Curtis

It was homecoming this weekend in Madison as the Trojan football team took on Northwestern Raiders. DSU lost with a score of 63-27 and moved their record to 0-5 on the season. The Trojans had a rough start in the first half of the season. 4 out of the 5 teams they played were all ranked in the top 25 in the nation. The next 6 games are going to have some better match ups for the Trojans.

The Trojans started off the first quarter slowly going 3 and out on their first offensive possession, and giving up a touchdown on the first play.  The next possession the Raiders scored again after being set up by an interception. In the second quarter the Trojans capitalized off of a fumble by the raiders. They used eight plays for 51 yards and punched it in with a 4-yard carry by Jeb Olsen.  The raiders added another touchdown to extend their lead to 27-7. The Trojans gained some momentum right before the end of the first quarter with a 6-yard touchdown pass from Brandon Large to his cousin Carl Curtis. In the second half the Trojans could not ride the momentum as they failed to get an onside kick and let northwestern score on the first play of the second half.  The raiders ran away with this one in the second half as nothing could go right for the Trojans.

Brandon Large went 27-45 with 242 yards, 2 touchdowns, and 3 interceptions. Jeb Olsen had 18 touches for 135 yards and 2 touchdowns. Curtis and Dauz added 7 catches. The Trojans will be heading to Concordia, Nebraska this weekend to take on the bulldogs.
